    Forums Slooooooow

Firstly, I apologise if this is not the correct area for this post, but...

I find the ES site and (especially) the community forums to be painfully slow; almost unusably slow at times.

Does anyone else find the site slooooow?

    Re: Slooooooow

This is the correct place and yes, we are aware of this. We just recently update to the new DNN release which is supposed to speed things up and the DNN side of things does seem to be much better. There are some configuration settings for Communtiy Server that we need to play around with, we apologize for that.  However, I believe our real solution is moving to a dedicate hosting solution, we currently host on http://www.discountasp.net and it's just too slow. We will work on the Commuity Server forums this weekend, most existing customers will spend their time here so it's important that it be fast.

    Re: Slooooooow

Lads, this site seems to be getting slower by the day. I fear that if matters do not improve you will frighten off potential customers.

The more customers you secure the better for ES and hence all of us existing customers. Bite the bullet and get a dedicated server. Personally I can recommend PowerDNN. Inexpensive and moving to them saved my bacon.

Yes - This is definitely the worst it's been yet.

We are working on something that should make a big difference, we'll let you know when it is in effect.

    Re: Slooooooow

    Great news Mike.

I don't know if you've considered it (although I'm sure you probably have), but HTTP compression offers some serious performance gains. I employ HTTP compression on my sites and the performance benefits were immediate and significant. It also saves me a bundle in bandwidth costs each month, as many pages compress to ~10% of their original sizes.

    Re: Slooooooow

You should notice a nice improvement, these forums are now running on their own site on our community.entityspaces.net subdomain

    Re: Slooooooow

Well, it looks like there is still a problem. Discountasp.net is killing our process every few minutes. It would seem that discountasp.net cannot run DotNetNuke or Community Server at all. I would definitely not recommend them as a shared hosting company. We're going to have to go dedicated I guess, what a pain.

    Re: Slooooooow

That is a pain. It seems a shame to have to spend a larger portion of your profits on (dedicated) hosting. I've used a few reasonably cheap US based hosts, and I never had any problems with shared hosting (and I've hosted popular forums in the past). JodoHost are very good, and their customer support is excellent. I'm sure you'd find their shared service is more than capable. I only left them because I wanted to use UK based hosting and I needed SQL Server 2K5 (they didn't offer it at the time).

Still... The forums are definitely quicker than before (most of the time).

    Re: Slooooooow

Excellent. Thx for the feedback. We moved the EntitySpaces Community off the DNN server on to its own with its own sub-domain. We are going to keep a close eye on it during our 30-day trial period to see if it does the trick. Let us know if you have any problems.
