Hi Guys
I have been a long time user of ES and was wondering how far off the support for Sybase is?
The reason I ask is that I am currently working for a large UK Company where we use both MSSQL and Sybase.I am currently in the process of putting together a demo and feel that if I could show the Sybase support at the same time (The apps use both MSSQL & Sybase together) it would geatly increase an early purchase decision.
Is there any chance of a beta/alpha version to show the comany?
Many thanks
Roy
How soon do you need a working version? What is your timeline. I'm sure it's a soon as possible but how long do you really have?

I'm another one keenly awaiting the Sybase provider and I'm very happy to read about the upcoming August '09 alpha release that will include this support. I'm in the early stages of development on a new Silverlight 3 / WCF application and over the next couple of weeks I hope to be able to try out the new ES alpha trial against our Sybase db.
We are releasing an Alpha this Monday, Aug 3rd with Sybase support ...
EntitySpaces Alpha 2009.1.0803.0 with Sybase Support Released
Thanks guys that's great work. Unfortunately I've learnt today that the company I work for is currently on a mix of Sybase SQL Anywhere platforms in the 8.0.2 - 10.0.1.3736 range. I've just been advised by one of our DBAs that there are plans for us to upgrade all of our Sybase servers to v10, followed by a later upgrade to v12. This means that the company plans to skip v11 completely and go from v10 -> v12 when v12 becomes available.
I know it makes sense for you guys to develop against the latest release so I completely understand that decision. Do you have any plans to support Sybase SQL Anywhere 10.x?
Well, of course when V12 comes out we will support it. Since we are not Sybase guru's yet we have never used the older versions. Sybase is 300 meg install and they don't run side by side from what I know, for us to support all versions would be an overwhelming task. Your best bet would be to purchase the source code and you could then rebuild the stuff against older versions and hope that works. I was afraid there would be folks on old versions out there, but we are targeting basically SQL Anywhere 11 and up, when SQL Anywhere 12 is released we will of course support that and so on ...
This kind of a thing is more complicated than you think, who knows if the metadata services we use to pull the data from Sybase are even present in Sybase 8, my guess, no way, this is all new ADO.NET functionality. But basically, moving foward and including Sybase 11 we support it.
No problem, I thought that would be your response because I know it makes sense for you to stick a flag in the ground at the current version and start your support there.
I'll have a think about your suggestion about building the source against older Sybase versions. It probably stands the best chance of working without too much hassle with Sybase 10.x but we really won't know until we try it out / go through that pain. The problem we now have is that making a 5+ ES developer license + source code purchase is a bit of a catch22 scenario for us. Do keep up the good work though!
You only need 1 source code license for your company, you need Developer licenses for all, but only 1 source code license. I agree, Sybase 10 plus the code is probably when you can get up on ES for Sybase.
