    ASPX admin templates for Codesmith

Hi - can anyone tell me whether or not the aspx admin templates are available for Codesmith?

Having just purchased EntitySpaces I was a bit surprised to discover that apparently only MyGeneration is supported.

    Regards

Those templates have not been converted to ES2008, yet, for either MyGeneration, or CodeSmith. Our plan is to do a major re-write to take advantage of the features that have been added since they were first written. They are only installed with ES2007, which was MyGeneration only.

Ok - thanks for the reply.  Smile

Any estimate on when the new, upgraded version of the templates will be ready?

The thing is, that I am trying to introduce ES2008/Codesmith at the client I am working with, and the more features that are in the box the sweeter the deal for them and the easier my work becomes. Put differently, without the ASPX admin templates, ES2008 has a much more difficult time competing with Codesmith templates available for NHibernate.

    Cheers,

We cannot currently provide an eta, as a large part of this depends on our choices concerning ES2009. However, let me throw this out there. You get ES2007 access as well when you purchase. Since the admin grids are meant as plop and drop crud for tables one can easily use ES2007 for this still. So you can still use them, the site/project would simply need to be ES2007 instead of ES2008.

    Hi Thomas

If you need any kind of justification then get them to take a look at the ease and power of the dynamic query API - blows everything else I've seen out of the water in terms of how intuitive it is.  Add to that the level of support you get as a customer here and the ever expanding list of features and there's really no doubt which to chose in my opinion.

While things like an automatic ASPX admin template no doubt add something to the mix, I'd only really see things like that as a skeleton anyway so I wouldn't think of them as part of my buying decision, just a nice little bonus that may or may not get used.

Also, don't forget that you can still use the old templates with MyGeneration which is open source anyway.

    Just my 2p

    Cheers

You are correct of course. Its only that when I have to "sell" something to a crowd of sceptic developers and managers, its much easier to do this when the tool/product appears more polished. If I have to install two code-generators, two versions of ES, etc. etc. people start to say "this does not appear mature".

I fully agree that I could make it work by patching the different versions in.
