We have a number of users that are using the latest EntitySpaces 2007 Developer and MyGeneration 1.2.0.7 under Windows Vista. Understanding Vista’s UAC, particularly the increased restrictions on the "Program Files" folder, is essential. Here are some tips for a smooth experience.
Install MyGeneration by right-clicking the installer and running as Administrator. When the Options dialog appears, un-check "Detect MDAC 2.7+".
Install EntitySpaces by right-clicking the installer and running as Administrator.
The safest way to run MyGeneration is to right-click and run as Administrator. Others prefer to create a folder under "My Documents", or some place that does not require elevated privileges, and set the default output location there in MyGeneration Default Settings.
If you plan to create or edit templates in MyGeneration, again, right-clicking and running as Administrator will prevent strange behavior. Others have reported success without that by moving the Templates folder from beneath "Program Folders\MyGeneration" to "My Documents" and changing the default template location in MyGeneration Default Settings.
In light of Microsoft’s recent announcements that they are sticking with the June 30, 2008 end-date for Windows XP Pro OEM and Retail availability, we, of course, plan to have ES 2008 install and run under Windows Vista, as well.
